Where to Buy Certified Refurbished Pipettes (and How to Vet a Seller)

The difference shows up months later in your data, so it pays to buy from a seller who can prove what they did. Here is how to vet one.

What "certified refurbished" must include

A real certified-refurbished pipette has been:

• Fully disassembled and inspected, with worn seals, O-rings and pistons replaced as needed;
• Gravimetrically calibrated to ISO 8655 across its volume range against NIST-traceable weights;
• Performance-checked and shipped with a calibration certificate showing the measured accuracy and precision;
• Backed by a warranty (we provide 90 days).

If a listing just says "tested and working" with no calibration certificate, that is a reseller, not a refurbisher.

Red flags to avoid

• No calibration certificate, or a certificate with no measured data;
• No reference to ISO 8655 or traceable weights;
• No warranty, or "as-is" sales;
• No brand, model or serial information;
• Stock photos instead of the actual instrument category.

Five questions to ask any seller

1. Do you replace seals and O-rings, or just clean and test?
2. Is each pipette calibrated to ISO 8655 against traceable weights, and do I get the certificate?
3. What warranty is included, and how are returns handled?
4. Can you supply a W-9, COI and accept a purchase order? (Important for institutional buyers.)
5. How fast do you ship, and is the price the final delivered price?
